Positives: When you’re visiting DC, make sure to book a reservation at Charlie Palmer’s Steak. See that bottle our fine bartender is showing me? That’s Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon. That’s no effing around bourbon. That’s $350 for two fingers bourbon. But it’s not the price that matters, it’s that Charlie Palmer’s stocks it. The only restaurant I’ve ever been to that does. (My colleague bought a pour.)
Charlie Palmer’s Steak is on Capitol Hill just a stone’s throw from The Mall and the Capitol Building. A lot of business gets done at Charlie Palmer’s. Luckily, the food quality can match the power and influence of most their patrons. Their seafood platter is served on ice and, aside from a King Crab plate I devoured in Anchorage, is the freshest seafood I’ve ever had.
But most don’t go to Charlie’s for the seafood, that’s just the appetizer. If steak is in your name, you better do steak right, and Charlie Palmer’s Steak does no wrong. The best part is that their wine selection is likely the best menu in DC. Make sure and finish the meal with a tawny that’s older than you are.
Negatives: Charlie Palmer’s Steak is a perfect dining experience. There are no negatives.
Recommendation: When you’re in DC, eat at Charlie Palmer’s Steak. Perfect food and wine. Make sure and finish the meal with a tawny that’s older than you are.
