Positives: Jack & Dan’s is quintessential Spokane. It was Gonzaga’s neighborhood pub back before Gonzaga was Gonzaga and Spokane was Spokane. A third dive bar, a third preferred venue for the business elite, and a third local institution, Jack & Dan’s is one of Spokane’s cultural hearths. A Spokanite you are not but for chilling at Jack & Dan’s from time to time.
Calling Jack & Dan’s a college bar is only partially correct, a college bar it is but it also caters to old Spokane wealth on an everyday basis. On any given afternoon, you’ll find a few local elite drinking cheap beer before retiring for the day. Then, as the evening grows long, it transitions more into Gonzaga University’s preferred good-times outlet.
The best part is finding a good seat on game night — you might as well be in McCarthey Athletic Center.
But what about the menu and food quality? Take heart, my friends, because their menu is broad and the food quality beats expectations. If you’re looking to enjoy some down-home Spokane fare, Jack & Dan’s is the place to do it from multiple perspectives.
Negatives: If the bars in metro Spokane were the City’s children, Jack & Dan’s is Spokane’s first born, perfect in every way, and there shall be no criticism.
Recommendation: Welcome to real Spokane. If you’re looking to enjoy some down-home Spokane fare, Jack & Dan’s is the place to do it from multiple perspectives.
