Rockford Community Description

Southern Spokane County is farm country, and there’s a spate of small towns that are located there. We’ve ranked them all – Waverly, Latah, Spangle, Fairfield, and now we’ve come to Rockford – the best of the bunch.

If the evergreen forests of Spokane and Kootenai counties were water, Rockford is about knee deep. Nevertheless, it is far more farm town than forest town. It is also, from all appearances, the most economically healthy farm community of the bunch, which must do more with its proximity to Spokane and Spokane Valley than the state of the commodities market. It’s fair to say Rockford has transitioned into a bedroom community for Spokane. And why wouldn’t someone want to live in Rockford? You get all the charms of small-town living, there’s plenty of open space between Rockford and urbanized Spokane, yet your commute downtown is on par with city dwellers living in the northern subdivisions.

Rockford’s hilly terrain adds even more character to its built environment. Lovely, large, and quaint old homes with big porches and big trees add generously to Rockford’s architectural dynamic. Rockford’s main street has a couple of great bars, a great local pizza joint, and a few mom and pop shops.

If you’re looking for the best of both worlds – small town living but easy access to urban amenities – Rockford has you covered.
